About me

I’m a fully qualified EMDR and CBT psychotherapist and have full accreditation with the BABCP and EMDR UK.  After many years working in the NHS and also for a specialist trauma service, I now work full time in private practice.

I work with all sorts of difficulties that affect day to day life.  These might include problems at home or work, panic attacks, anxiety, difficulty sleeping, having experienced traumatic events or depression.  Other times it could be something more general and you might want to talk to someone you don’t already know about the situation.

I’m particularly interested in how traumatic events affect us, whether these are really big, memorable events which we clearly know are affecting us, or whether it is a cumulation of smaller, but still difficult experiences over time.  It often turns out that things like panic attacks, which seem to come from no-where end up linking back to a difficult experience in the past.

What happens in sessions

In sessions you can of course decide how much you want to talk about and how much you want to think about past events.

If you prefer, we can work on techniques to help you manage your anxiety or current symptoms and think about ways to help you improve your day to day life, without necessarily talking about your experiences in much detail.

If you would like to go into more depth then we can think a bit more about how recent and earlier life experiences are linked with your current symptoms and work specifically on these events.

The number of sessions depends on what suits your circumstances and what you are hoping to achieve.  You might want to start with planning 8-12 sessions, and then go on to 20 sessions or more if you are finding it helpful.
